Audi Driver Frank Biela wins 24 hour (slot) race!

Now this is just tooooooo cool! Check this item out from the Audi Motorsport newsletter (thanks to slotbrother Dr Vanski for the heads up on this one!)

RCCO: For the second time in succession Frank Biela has won the 24-hour race for slot cars around the Nurburgring-Sudschleife. The five-time Le Mans winner piloted an Audi R8 LMS together with two journalists and the Boss of Slotracing-Werk to a dominant victory. In addition to the Drivers' Championship Audi also won the Manufacturers' Championship in the rallye racing Carrera Cup 2010 (RCCO).

Frank Biela is a slotter... I love it! And for the "second time in succession". Not only does he race but evidently he's good too!

News and Photos from the 2010 Trier Sprint Worlds and OEPS Finale

Above is a spectacular time-lapse night racing segment shot provided by Mr. Mark Campbell.

For those that are interested, there are some event pics on the Renn-Center-Trier web page. You'll find them here: 2010 Trier Worlds Sprint Races Information

Check out the stunning paint jobs on the 1/24 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR's run in the Scaleauto Sprint races.

Quite a field of entries too; I would think that this would validate the popularity of this new racing class and assure its place on the International slot racing calendar for years to come.

I thought our readers might like some close-up photos of the Scaleauto cars also- the one above is sporting the popular Gulf livery

Here we see a 911 revival of "Der Truffeljäger von Zuffenhausen" (or more popularly known as "pink pig") livery first seen on the LeMans 917/20 driven by Willy Kauhsen and Reinhold Jöest.

The Scaleauto Porsches were prepared to the Scaleracing rules published here:

To be fair- the field of 26 prototypes were very good looking in their own right.

Here's a closeup of one of the OEPS entries during qualifying.

Finally, a closeup of a fine looking model of the privateer Peugeot 908 from LeMans 2010. The 1:1 team was in contention for at least a podium finish before succumbing to the same sort of failure that eliminated the works Peugeot entries.

A heartfelt thank you to Nick de Wachter for the below link to the Sprint Worlds and OPES full results page:

Trier 2010 Race Reports

All indications are that the 2010 Trier Sprint Worlds and OEPS was a huge success. The event even drew ISRA racers Brian Saunders, Michael Landrud, Christer Helgesson, and Lars Harryson who are not generaly known as hardbody racers.

Hopefully we will see many of the same participants for the 3rd Plafit PanAm Championship at Mid-America Raceway and Hobbies to be held October 9th and 10th 2010.

NEPA Slot Cars-BRM 6 Hour Enduro

Follow this link to Slot Car Illustrated to read the account of this race... a really great read BTW!!!

From the race report:

"The NEPA Slot Car Club hosted a Six Hour Race for BRM Cars on December 12, 2009 at NEPA Model Raceway. The cars were to be any 1/24th scale BRM car using any combination of BRM parts and running on Indy Grip 3101 tires only. There were four teams entered:

Team Coke: Tom Pintchuck
Dave Kennedy
Coca-Cola Porsche 962C No. 5

Team Monster: Eric Skurka
P. J. Golden
Mike Grabko
Monster Energy Drink Special Porsche 962C

NJ Slot 132: Rob Holt
Don Warmby
Toyota 88C No. 36 "Black Edition"

KAOS: Chuck Perez
Dean Kirkpatrick
Tom Gunshannon
Miller High Life Porsche 962C No. 14

The race was 6 hours duration, broken into half hour segments and the drivers could share the driving time any way they saw fit so long as all drivers got as equal a share of the time as possible. All vehicle maintenance and repair had to be performed under "green flag" conditions only.

The green flag dropped at 2:03 pm for the first heat and the pace was immediately fast and furious. At the end of the first half hour, Dean had KAOS in the lead with 280 laps, Coke was second with 274, and Monster and NJ Slot 132 were tied for third at 268. Despite their unfamiliarity with the track and limited practice time, NJ Slot 132 set fastest lap with a time of 6.070 seconds. "
